Intro: Tv theme tunes are important for all those who watch tv. The signature tune of a tv programme signals the start and end of the episode. The composer chooses musical elements carefully in order to set the mood for the programme. Tv themes are usually short so the tune must be memorable, sometimes this is achieved by using repeated phrases. The instruments chosen are also important as they set the mood.

instrumentation-Eastenders- solo piano and tom tom used in the intro
instrumentation- Simpsons- large orchestra and synthesised sounds
melody- Eastenders- the melody is made up of a repeated two bar ascending idea of six notes answered by a two bar descending phrase of six notes. The repetition and simple melody make it memorable.
melody-Simpsons- the melody is made up of a five bar idea which is repeated, it changes key, dynamics, instruments and articulation throughout the piece. The repetition and variation of the melody makes it memorable.
Tonality- Eastenders- major= The composer chooses a major tonality to reflect a bright and happy mood
